Membership

Who can join

Medical Laboratory Science students at Jimma University.

How membership works

  1. Register your interest with the chapter (form below).
  2. Once the chapter is recognised, register as an EMLA student member.
  3. Pay the EMLA student membership fee directly to EMLA’s account. JUMLSA does not collect fees.
  4. Take part: attend the General Assembly, join programmes and stand for election.

Regular members register with EMLA and follow EMLA’s requirements. The chapter keeps membership records and follows up on registration and payment status.

What members can expect

Members take part in our programmes: seminars, journal clubs, research activities, mentorship, leadership training, community service and World Laboratory Day. Members can also use EMLA’s continuing professional development and e-learning. See Resources for links.

Register interest

Until EMLA recognises the chapter, we collect expressions of interest only. We will contact you when membership opens. Ready to sign up? Use the full registration form.

Email is preferred.

Questions

Is the chapter recognised yet?

Not yet. We sent our proposal to EMLA on 16 October 2026 and recognition is pending. Until EMLA decides, we collect expressions of interest only.

How much is EMLA student membership?

EMLA sets the fee and members pay it directly to EMLA. Check emlaeth.org (opens in a new tab) or ask the Executive Committee for the current amount.

Do I have to be in a particular year?

No. The founding team includes students from different years.

Who runs the chapter?

See Leadership.
